Light Matters
"Just look for the light" is what a photographer told me a few years ago during a workshop in Sydney.
It's the kind of advice I had heard before, but this time it landed differently.
My interpretation was a literal one, and it freed me up creatively. Instead of agonising over finding "worthy subjects," I simply "looked for the light" and it instantly opened up new possibilities.
Good educators can plant a seed that truly propels your practice, no matter what discipline you're working in.
This image is an example of that. I was walking through the backyard of a place we stay at regularly for a few days of R&R. I'd seen the prayer flags multiple times before but had never thought about photographing them.
But at that exact moment, they were beautifully backlit and really caught my eye.
It may not be a dramatic or show stopping image, but it's one that gives me joy. One that would have been far more ordinary in different light.
